OBESITY AND METABOLIC SURGERY

TUBE STOMACH SURGERY

Sleeve gastrectomy surgery creates a feeling of early satiety by allowing you to consume fewer portions due to the reduction of stomach volume, thus providing the potential for rapid weight loss. Since ghrelin, the hunger hormone secreted from the stomach fundus region, is removed during the surgery, the feeling of hunger is felt less. An important difference of this surgical method from other obesity surgeries is that it does not make any major changes in the digestive system. Therefore, eaten foods are absorbed naturally and the risk of long-term vitamin and protein deficiency is low. However, it is still important to pay attention to the diet and take the necessary vitamin and mineral supplements after the surgery.

GASTRIC BYPASS

The practice of reducing the size of the stomach and bypassing the small intestine, resulting in less food absorption, is called gastric bypass. In the gastric bypass procedure, the remaining part of the stomach, except 10%, is disabled and a small stomach is created. Then, the small intestine, which is responsible for the absorption of nutrients, is bypassed. By performing these two separate processes, it is aimed to reduce the amount of food reaching the stomach and intestines. Gastric bypass, which is performed as a surgical operation, reduces the amount of food to be taken into the stomach. Since the stomach size is reduced, people feel full in a shorter time. This prevents weight gain due to excessive food intake. Since the small intestine shrinks with gastric bypass, the amount of food to be absorbed decreases. As the small intestine connects to the newly created stomach, less nutrients are absorbed. Since unabsorbed nutrients go directly to the digestive system and are thrown out, weight gain does not occur. This prevents obesity problems from occurring in the future.
